Alexander Ostlund is a former Swedish right back who was born in Akersberga, Sweden on 2nd November 1978. Ostlund began his youth career with local side IFK Osteraker before moving to AIK in 1994. He started life as a striker, and was soon converted into winger before finally switching to full back. After three years at AIK, Ostlund had a year at Brommapojkarna in 1997, and then returned to Allmanna Idrottsklubben the following year.

In 1998 he left Sweden to join Portuguese outfit Guimaraes, but failed to make a single appearance for the club. He had a trial with second tier English side Birmingham City in February 1999, but Blues boss Trevor Francis decided against bringing Ostlund in, describing his performance in a reserve match with Manchester United as 'sluggish'.

Ostlund returned to Sweden in early 1999 to join Norrkoping. He spent four years with 'Snoka', before joining Hammarby in 2003. Ostlund had two successful seasons at Hammarby, helping them to a 2nd place finish in his first campaign. His form earned him a place in Sweden's Euro 2004 Squad. Ostlund won 22 caps for his country overall. The Swedish defender moved to Dutch giants Feyenoord in 2004. Ostlund played 16 times in 2004/05 for the Rotterdam club, alongside the likes of Salomon Kalou and Dirk Kuyt. He featured in the same number of games the following season, before moving to Championship club Southampton in late January 2006.

Ostlund made his Saints debut on 4th February 2006 in a 0-0 draw with Derby. He made a great first impression with Southampton fans, who appreciated his tough tackling swash buckling style. That's not to say the ex AIK defender didn't have his critics amongst the St Marys faithful either. Some believed his poor positional sense and ill discipline was a detriment to the side. Saints fans also nicknamed the Swedish international 'Jesus' due to his long hair and beard.

Ostlund was in and out of the Southampton side in 2006/07, but cemented his position at right back towards the end of the season, and played well in the clubs late charge towards the play-offs. He played just 12 times in 2007/08, missing a large chunk of the season through injury and poor form. Ostlund made his final ever appearance for Saints on 15th March 2008 in a 5-0 hammering at Hull. He was released from the club on 2nd July 2008.

On 25th August 2008 Ostlund moved to Denmark to join Esbjerg fB. He spent 17 months with the club, before being forced to retire through injury on 25th January 2010.
